STYLE GURU STYLE: Home for the Holidays

Runway style is more than the clothes. The makeup and accessories chosen to complement the fashions are usually easier to replicate in an everyday look and they are also just as trendy as the clothing. I gathered inspiration from the Marc Jacobs fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection to put together a look that is perfect for any holiday occasion, from dinner with family to New Year’s Eve with friends.

I was inspired by the plum lips sported by the models, as well as their thigh-high boots. Even though I don’t have boots just like this, I used a shorter wedge alternative. For my lips, I used my favorite liquid lipstick from NYX. I was also inspired by the designer’s use of sequins and chose my sequin kimono from Primark to be the focus of the outfit. I love how this kimono makes this outfit a little more dressed up but still ok to wear to a more casual event. Everyone always compliments me on my oversized gold studs, so I decided to throw them into the mix with a classic black flowy tank and dark wash skinny jeans to round out the ensemble.

I was reading an article the other day about the Millennial Generation and the death of the party. Our generation might go to house parties during our time at school, but our parents have been hosting and attending holiday parties since they were our age and we haven’t exactly been replicating their celebratory style. I vote we bring dinner and holiday parties back, but until then, I’ll settle for wearing something like this out to reunite with high school friends.
