STYLE GURU STYLE: Grunge Over Glam

Spring has sprung, and we are finally getting to wear all the trends that designers portrayed in their shows months ago (with some being trends from over a decade ago). Marques’Almeida decided to bring back grunge, but throw in a touch of glamour in her spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, to make this old trend new. She incorporated black sheer tops, black layered dresses and boyfriend jeans. While I usually am known for a black on black ensemble, I decided to take a more “colorful” approach to Marques’Almeida’s ‘90s fashion.

While her show was a little risky for street style, Marques’Almeida gave me inspiration to incorporate more grunge into my glamour. This “magnifique” T-shirt dress I acquired last summer in Paris is one of my go-to pieces. It is easy to throw on in a rush or plan an ensemble around. While plaid seems to be a more fall to winter trend, style is all about breaking the rules of fashion right? So, who’s going to tell me I can’t wear my flannel in spring? No one—that’s who. To conclude the grunge side of my look, I threw on my knee-high combat boots. If only I had a baseball cap to totally bring back the ‘90s!

Now that I got the grunge side complete, it’s now on to the glamour and nothing says glamour quite like Stella McCartney. I carried my Falabella Shaggy Deer Fold-Over Clutch to glam up the grunge. Because my look was still more grunge than glam, I decided just to glam it up a little more with a simple winged eyeliner and strong cheekbones.

Get My Look: 1. A graphic T-shirt dress. 2. Knee-high lace-up boots. 3. A gray fold-over clutch.
