STYLE GURU STYLE: Flowy and Free

Last month, Dolce&Gabbana hosted their women’s show to feature their newest line. Following in suit of their men’s line, which had celebrated the family, their women’s collection commemorated mothers, and exhibited a chic line of maternity wear. Eleven “mom” models made appearances on the runway, including three with their children, and even one with a very pregnant belly! Extending a wonderfully positive message, the entire show reminded us that everything we are is an extension of where we came from.

Speaking of maternitywear, meet Hatch, a clothing line that specializes in, as Style.com describes, “pregnancy clothes that don’t actually look like pregnancy clothes.” Following Dolce&Gabbana’s maternity collection, Hatch launched a new website March 13th to feature their spring/summer 2015 collection. You don’t need to be expecting to love and shop their looser-fitting line. In fact, founder Ariane Goldman describes their new collection as “natural extensions of our mission to provide chicness and ease through all of the various realities that women experience, mamas or not.” Power to the women.

To translate into my own tastes, I find that the looser fit is a great style, and I love wearing it year-round. If you’ve read enough fashion literature, you’ve probably seen somewhere that balancing tight with loose is a must. If you’re planning to wear slim-fitting jeans, pair it with a flowy blouse. Opting for a figure-hugging top? Choose an airier pant or skirt style. Some can certainly pull off pairing loose with loose, but avoid putting together a head to toe skintight outfit.

With my outfit shown here, I found this fantastic cable knit maxi sweater, which is currently on sale at Urban Outfitters on Fifth Avenue, and they’ll likely continue selling similar styles in the future. Pacsun, which has adopted the Brandy Melville brand, now sells great tops like mine, which stops mid-thigh, and is cut into a high slit at the sides. This works very well if you have a pattern or print that you want to peak out; here, I chose a leopard print. This top is also incredibly soft and comfortable. Finally, American Eagle Outfitters sells quality, comfy jeggings, which is where I found my high-waisted pair.

Get My Look: 1. Sweater. 2. Top. 3. Jeggings.
