STYLE GURU STYLE: Flowers and Suede

It’s unlikely that florals will ever go out of style. Designers reinvent different variations of floral season after season. And, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t wear florals for fall. Jewel-toned floral prints were featured on the runway at the Burberry Prorsum fall 2015 ready-to-wear show. At Burberry, florals were paired with cool suede accessories. There was even a navy suede coat with a muted floral appliqué—amazing!

Leather is great too, but there’s something about suede that feels extra luxurious and cozy to me. With the recent exception of suede skirts, suede has typically been a material that’s reserved for fall and winter, whereas you can wear leather year-round. It just feels more special and looks so pretty when dyed in unexpected colors, from pastels to jewel tones. And, in my opinion, faux suede always looks more expensive than faux leather.

Taking inspiration from Burberry, I paired a retro-inspired floral dress from Express with a suede Asos bag and over-the-knee boots. Long sleeve dresses are great for cooler weather and I love the cutout back detail on this dress. I also love the concept of a mismatched bag and shoe for a more effortless effect. At Burberry, black booties were paired with a tan bucket bags. Similarly, I paired my light gray boots with a magenta bag, highlighting some of the colors from my dress. I wore a similar look for my first day of class and first day as an office intern at CollegeFashionista!

Get My Look: 1. This dress from Express. 2. Any suede over-the-knee boots. 3. A suede tote.
