STYLE GURU STYLE: Faux (Fur) Pas

My current obsession for fall/winter fashion definitely has to be faux fur pieces. Whether it is in the form of a vest or full-length coat, faux fur is the ideal staple piece to take any outfit from zero to 100. One collection that featured fur that comes to mind is Rodarte’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The collection features oversized, boxy fur coats that are juxtaposed with delicate velvet frocks and lots of lace. The contrast of the dresses in the collection offset the bulkiness of the fur pieces, creating a look that is elegant and a silhouette that is feminine yet fierce.

Inspired by Rodarte’s collection, I invested in a faux fur jacket and vest for my wardrobe (and never real fur because #animalrights)! For this outfit, I chose to rock my favorite fur vest, paired with a variety of neutral hues. The cut of the vest is just right for pairing it with either a pair of jeans, or with a cute skirt or dress. Since I wore this outfit to my internship, I opted for a nicer top, the ever-classy bow blouse. I am also obsessed with this subdued, rusty, orange color for fall because it reflects the changing colors of the leaves. To complement the blouse, I wore my black leather-esque jeans and a pair of sparkly black loafers. To top off the look, I added a pair of statement earrings and my staple gold watch.

None of my outfits are complete without my Dooney & Bourke pansy shopper. Both fashionable and functional, it is the perfect piece to store all of my stuff for work and school. Alternately, for days off, I usually opt for a plaid shirt under my fur vest, paired with a beanie and a killer pair of combat boots. The versatility of the fur vest makes it a must-have for the approaching cold weather.

Get My Look: 1. A fur vest. 2. A bow blouse. 3. A pair of black pants. 4. A pair of black loafers.
