STYLE GURU STYLE: Doubling Denim

A trend I’ve been seeing a lot of lately is the denim on denim look. This trend is prominent in Sea’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The words I think of when trying to describe this collection are: modern, 1970s and Scandinavian. Its color palette solely includes blues, army green, blacks, creams and denim. The looks that stood out to me were all of the denim looks. I liked the first look in the collection because it doubled down on the denim. The model is wearing an awesome pair of light wash jeans paired with a kimono with light denim on the sleeved and the lapels. The full body playsuit is funky and cool and could totally be worn by Laurie on That 70’s Show (one of my fashion icons). This color of denim in this playsuit is so vibrant, and is a wash I rarely see in denim. All of the denim looks have a ’70s vibe to them yet still maintain a certain modernism, often shown in their shoes.

I recreated one of these ’70s double denim looks with my jean jacket and bell bottom pants. Maintaining the color palate from the Sea collection, I wore a tan flowy tank top with a light floral embroidery. My braided heeled sandals give me a touch of height and make the outfit a little bit dressier. I obviously had to add some big hoops and a little dandelion behind my ear because they are both just so me!

I’ll admit it: wearing denim on denim is a bold move. You have to have a certain confidence to begin wearing this trend. At first it feels a bit silly, but as you play around with it and tailor it to your own style I promise you will feel super trendy.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of bell bottoms. 2. Denim jacket. 3. A unique top.
