STYLE GURU STYLE: Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend

I adore spring; The weather is absolutely marvelous. Blossoming flowers and sunny days call for dresses. Wearing dresses makes me feel much more lively and youthful, fitting the carefree and relaxed atmosphere most students feel on these beautiful, warm spring days.

Warm, lively and youthful are adjectives I would use to describe Diane von Furstenberg’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The time she launched this collection marked the 40 year anniversary of the introduction of her signature wrap dress. Diane definitely celebrated this through a revival of the original, incorporating silk fabrics and rosier palettes. I love the various shades of pink and embellishments of gold in this collection.

I admire Diane von Furstenberg’s talent not only as a designer but as a business woman. I’m touched by her dedication towards developing women leaders, and I’m impressed by her aesthetic acumen on top of that. In particular, I admire how Diane is able to create women’s dress that are not only youthful but also sophisticated. I see this especially in her pre-fall 2016 collection. She maintains a similar silhouette in her designs but changes up the color scheme. Pre-fall 2016 clothing used a darker palette, focusing on navy and orange. Colored sandals are replaced by black boots.

I combined elements from both collections in creating my outfit. I’m wearing a wrap dress commemorating 40 years of Diane’s iconic piece. I really love the diamond print since it is subtle enough to add a layer of sophistication, compared to polka-dots. which are sometimes a more childish pattern. As a Fashionista who prefers gold to silver, I definitely took note of the different ways Diane incorporates the color into her spring collection. Drawing inspiration, I chose to wear gold sandals and paint my toenails turquoise, matching the gold and pastel colored heels the models wore. What I love most in the pre-fall collection is the presence of orange. I’ve recently started appreciating it more as a color. In order to incorporate some into my look, I painted my nails orange and wore a copper ring. This outfit makes me feel like the sophisticated young adult I know I can be (instead of the girl who has trouble detaching herself from her bed).

Get My Look: 1. Any wrap or kimono style dress. 2. Gold sandals. 3. A touch of orange.
