STYLE GURU STYLE: Country-Chic

The newest Rebecca Minkoff collection is a combination of chic and boho, and if you look closely, even a small twist of country flair. As a girl who grew up in a small town in Northern Pennsylvania, I jumped on the opportunity to break out the cowboy boots and blast a few Kenny Chesney songs. As much as I love the city, a small part of me will always have a little country flair. This collection really inspired me to combine my past and my present. I created a country-chic look that is feminine, romantic and perfect for a casual spring evening.

I started with a basic pair of neutral colored boots and built the look from the bottom up. I chose destroyed American Eagle Outfitters skinny jeans with a cream colored off-the-shoulder blouse. The blouse has a pretty lace embellishment on the front and a tie in the back that adds a little character to the style. The billowy sleeves keep the look soft and add some girly detail. In addition, the dream catcher necklace complemented the lace and dresses up the outfit just enough to keep the look simple but not too basic.

This collection really inspired me to explore styles outside of the current trends. The collection can be described in many different ways, but I took an abstract approach at creating the look. The fringe details, leather and feathers of the runway collection reminded me of a chic, country look, so I went back to my roots and tried a look that was inspired by my hometown, my family and memories. It’s easy to fall into the routine of wearing the same styles for months at a time. Try revisiting some of the pieces that have been pushed to the back of your closet, or take a trip somewhere to gain some inspiration. Whether it’s out to the country side for some fresh air and quiet or venturing downtown, something as simple as location can inspire new ideas.

Get My Look: 1. Destroyed denim. 2. Off-the-shoulder blouse. 3. Boots.
