STYLE GURU STYLE: Classy and Colorful

All around campus, I feel like I’m stuck in a sea of dark colors. While I totally understand the idea that black is slimming and flattering, I still love color! I think people stay away from colors and patterns out of a fear of not looking classy and polished. However, the kate spade new york pre-fall 2016 collection proves that color is in!

Taking inspiration from the looks in this collection, I paired a multicolored and patterned silk top with a solid skirt in one of the featured colors. A long sleeve silk blouse instantly makes any look feel more polished and classy, whether you choose to wear it with jeans, a short skirt or a professional pencil skirt.

For this look I balanced the flowy top with a more streamlined corduroy skirt, which is perfect for in between seasons when the weather can be unpredictable. To keep the colored look from getting too busy, match the color of the skirt to one of the non-dominant colors in your top. In my look I chose the hot pink.

I decided to keep the look preppy and casual with classic leather Sperry Top-Siders. Boat shoes are timeless, especially in leather, but I love the added touch of personality that comes from some of the styles like this leopard print. It is subtle enough that it won’t take away from your look or throw off how well the pieces match, but the extra embellishment adds a little more fun.

I finished off my look with simple blue earrings and a navy statement necklace. Jewelry is an easy way to update any outfit and change it up to fit various occasions. I have a huge collection of statement necklaces in various shades, so I can always find one that fits my particular style personality on any given day.

Get My Look: 1. A colorful silk blouse. 2. A coordinating solid colored skirt. 3. Classic comfortable shoes like Sperry Top-Siders. 4. Your favorite statement jewelry piece.
