STYLE GURU STYLE: Back to Black

I think we have all heard one too many times about the extensive number of traditional fashion faux pas. Don’t wear white after Labor Day, steer clear of socks and sandals, never pair brown with black; the list goes on and on. Thankfully, the fashion world has long since said goodbye to those outdated “rules.” Nowadays, fashion is all about taking risks and wearing the unexpected.

One of my favorite bold trends that was spotted all over the runways was mixing the colors black and brown. The Fendi fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection perfected the color-combining trend, pairing classic black pieces with rich brown tones. Fendi was not afraid to play with texture either; showcasing luxurious leather, suede and fur ensembles.

Whether or not it’s a current trend, I am almost always wearing the color black because it’s extremely flattering and goes with everything. In this outfit, I opted for a cropped sweater and my favorite pair of Topshop skinnies with rips on the knees. To add an edgy vibe to the look, I threw on my leather motorcycle jacket, which has become a staple piece in my fall wardrobe—bonus points for added warmth!

Normally, I would continue with the all-black color scheme and play it safe with some black booties. Yet this time around, I was inspired by Fendi’s juxtaposition of rich colors and textures and chose to rock this pair of suede ankle booties in a rich brown hue. Plus, I absolutely love the ‘60s comeback and all of the killer suede pieces that have been dominating fashion blogs like Danielle Bernstein from WeWoreWhat. For a finishing touch and a dash of color, I bundled up in a flannel scarf. Once the cold weather hits, cozy scarves become essential pieces that I don’t dare leave my dorm without.

Get My Look: 1. Black skinny jeans. 2. A black leather moto jacket. 3. Brown ankle boots. 4. Flannel scarf
