STYLE GURU STYLE: (Ath)leisurely Transition To Spring

With spring just around the corner, it’s easy to get ahead of ourselves and go on a shopping spree to pick up the latest cut off shorts and crop tops; however, something most of us forget is that spring is pretty chilly for the most part and our bare arms will be ridden with goose bumps if we simply leave the house without a jacket. Not to mention, school is still in session and we need to consider our comfort levels throughout the day. Basically, it’s really hard to dress during this transition into warmer weather—or is it? The zeitgeist of fashion right now is athleisure—the combination of rocking your comfiest apparel (be it your sneakers, favorite workout leggings or a baseball hat) with an outfit that wouldn’t typically be paired with something so casual.

The best part about this trend is that it looks great, as you can see from the spring 2016 show for Lacoste. The collection paired platform sandals with printed sweatshirts and sweatpants, along with adorable day dresses and trousers—something that sounds ridiculous, but looks totally cute.

I’m a firm believer in the athleisure movement; if I can wear dresses with sneakers and have it be totally normal, then please sign me up. This trend is comfortable, casual and still very stylish, all of which are key factors I look for in a day-to-day outfit.

Featured is an outfit that I would wear basically anywhere, including to school, work or out with friends. With the transition into spring in mind, I layered a bodycon midi dress in heather gray with a men’s denim jacket for a more casual and boxy feel. I think balancing the bodycon dress with a less fitted jacket is what makes this look work.

I’m wearing my classic black booties, but could definitely have swapped them out for a pair of adidas or Nike sneakers for some additional athletic vibes. To top it all off (literally), I’m sporting a white baseball cap. The hat and the jacket really bring in the athleisure trend (and look completely adorable), while the dress and booties give a put together and fashion-forward vibe.

Get My Look: 1. A midi dress. 2. A denim jacket. 3. A pair of booties. 4. A simple hat.
