STYLE GURU STYLE: Athleisure Peas

I remember a couple of weeks ago I woke up to an email that said that the word athleisure was being added to the dictionary, and I thought to myself “it was about time.” This trend is one of the best things that could have happened to the fashion world because it combines comfort and stylishness. However, I have to admit that I have not explored it enough.

When I think of this word the first designer that comes to my mind is Stella McCartney. She has been designing collections for adidas for a while now, and I would safely say that all those pieces fit under the category of athleisure. Therefore, the day my boyfriend suggested we spent the afternoon riding bikes around the city, I thought it was the perfect opportunity for me to explore the trend. I immediately went to Vogue.com for some inspiration, which I found in her fall 2016 ready-to-wear runway show. Most of the looks were monochromatic with a pop of color, while a couple focused more on printed pieces. But, since I am a “black is the best color ever” girl, I decided to draw my inspiration from the monochromatic ones.

The first and far most important thing to own is a pair of black comfy leggings; it is an essential part of athleisure. They can be the base to literally any look you want to create: shirts, tunics, cropped tops, sweaters, cardigans, dresses—literally ANYTHING. So, I put mine on and started layering. First, I added a black shirt to the monochromatic of the overall look. Then, I threw on a blue bomber jacket with green peas on it, to protect myself from the cold (Boston still does not know that it is spring). Bomber jackets are also a part of athletic looks, and they are making a major comeback this season. And, to complete my look, I threw on my favorite pair of sneakers-that just happened to be made by Stella McCartney. The overall outfit was extremely comfortable for an active day, and I thought it looked pretty cool.

Get My Look: 1. Black leggings. 2. Cool bomber jacket. 3. Comfy sneakers.
