STYLE GURU STYLE: A Red Statement

Fall is in full swing, which means that we’re not too far from busting out our winter coats over here on the East Coast. Many people complain that “real winter clothes” aren’t cute because you’re just in a puffy parka the whole time. Well, my fellow winter-haters, a favorite trick of mine is to wear a cute outfit that includes a lightweight jacket underneath a huge winter coat. Doing this will allow you to show off your fabulous outfit when you’re indoors or pop the winter coat off for a few pictures before throwing it back on to warm up.

I wanted to go with a look that’s just black in order to emphasize the statement piece: my bright red tote. Because an all-black outfit can run along the lines of basic, I decided to spice the outfit up a little by wearing this cape blazer as my lightweight jacket. I love this cape because it gives the classy vibe of a blazer but doesn’t actually make me feel like I’m going to a job interview.

You all know I love pieces of clothing that are different. I am obsessed with my new body suit that I’m wearing in this outfit. The body suit has a straight across and low neckline, giving an elegant twist on a basic tank top look. It’s important to bear in mind that wearing low-rise jeans can often throw your proportion off a tad when wearing a body suit. To be safe, I threw on my favorite pair of high-waisted black jeans.

When I’m wearing black on black, I like to wear a belt to help define the border between the top of my jeans and my top. And of course, every outfit looks better with heels on. These black heeled booties are my new go-to. I’ve only had them for a month and I’ve worn them over 15 times!

My cape and booties are from Boohoo, my body suit is from Forever 21, my jeans are Free People and my tote and belt are from Florence, Italy.

Don’t be afraid to go bold this winter! As I always say, I’d rather be overdressed than underdressed.
