STYLE GURU STYLE: A Pop of Color for the New Year

This year, I’ve decided to set some New Year’s resolutions for myself. Most people don’t really stick to their resolutions. Seriously, compare the amount of people at your local gym on January 1st and then on February 1st, the numbers will be completely different. One of my resolutions is to push myself to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to what I wear. Lately, I find myself wearing a ton of all-black outfits. Although there is nothing wrong with wearing all-black, I do feel like there is so much more when it comes to fashion.

In order to really follow through with my new year’s resolution, I’ve decided that I’m going to make the change gradually. I feel like this way I will really be able to discover the joy in putting together colorful outfits instead of just all-black. When creating this look I decided on a flannel shirt dress that was originally belted with a tie belt. I took the original belt back and used a suede corset belt. I got the inspiration from Kim Kardashian, who has been using a ton of corset belts lately. I like them because they give you a greater silhouette than any other waist-level belt. I was tempted to pair this outfit with a black over-the-knee boot, but was more determined to stick to my resolution.

So now, for the color: to start off my New Year’s resolution gradually, I purchased a pair of over-the-knee boots in maroon. Over-the-knee boots are a trend that has really taken off this past year. Now, almost every college girl I know has a pair. So, I decided to get a pair that is not typically seen to step out of my comfort zone. I think that adding these boots to my outfit really added a pop of color that was super fun. I am happy that I was able to start to step out of my comfort zone and hope to do so more often!
