STYLE GURU STYLE: A Little Bit of Everything

When the weather and leaves change, so does fashion. I used to dislike fall quite a lot; summer is my favorite season and fall always seemed to march in and take over with its chilly winds and cloudy skies. However, I am trying to focus on the positive things that this season brings lately, such as beautiful colors, pumpkin-flavored everything and plenty of fall-scented candles to light around the house. Fashion can also be more fun in the fall because of the shift from light to layered clothing.

When it comes to fashion, I love to try new things and explore up and coming trends. Working at Kate Spade has changed my style quite a bit because I now look for apparel that will last longer instead of buying a lot of items for a low cost. My job has also changed my style because I have found “adult” ways of incorporating glitter and bows into certain looks (really!) and I now style many outfits around a fun pair shoes (such as my favorite pair, the Becca flats). Recently ridding my closet of pile after pile of clothing, I was left with my desired wardrobe of a majority of pieces containing both versatility and quality.

For this look, I combined five of my fashion favorites; distressed denim, a leather jacket, a metallic piece, heeled ankle boots and a kate spade handbag. I love how a distressed pair of jeans can change the look of an entire outfit, and I especially love when people wear them paired with dressier tops and jackets for a cool balance. Speaking of jackets, this is my favorite leather one—Calvin Klein brand in a dusty blue color. It’s the best of both worlds—warm and stylish!

Metallics are my favorite current fall trend. I especially love metallic material on skirts and blouses. Here, I am wearing a cropped metallic sweater from Banana Republic, which I find perfect for the holidays when accessorized right.

Ankle boots are a must for fall, and I confess that I own four pairs in different colors. In my opinion, they can dress up any outfit without being too over the top. Heeled ones are my personal favorite.

Lastly, my obvious obsession of kate spade does not escape any outfit. My husband bought me my watch last Christmas and I wear it every day, and this Maise handbag was my gift to myself when I decided I finally needed a quality purse.

I call my personal style “a little bit of everything” because that’s just how I see it. Current trends here, classic pieces there and a new piece every so often. One of my favorite quotes says, “Fashion is what you buy, style is what you do with it.” This statement is beyond true because of all the possibilities that exist when it comes to what you wear. Defining your personal style can be a fun, challenging journey but the confidence you end up with is well worth it.
