STYLE GURU STYLE: ’90s Cool Kid

Mastering ‘90s trends is an impeccable art that allows you to look messy in an impossibly chic way. Our favorite nostalgic layering craze has made a serious comeback since its heyday, and plot twist: the slip goes over your clothes now.

The once go-to move of grunge era It girls—Rachel Green and Cher Horowitz—has been revived thanks to of-the-moment designers, celebrities and street style trendsetters. The slip dress is officially a versatile wardrobe staple; in fact, it’s been celeb-vetted and achieved sell-out status yet again this year. Paired with a humble T-shirt, the dynamic duo is back and doper than ever.

Although many find the undergarment trend intimidating, whether you’re heading to brunch, a concert or a party there’s a slip style suited for every occasion. To ease in, layer with a classic white T-shirt to create a reasonably casual daytime look, like I did here. Or, if you’re feeling daring, graphic T-shirts perfectly harmonize with silk spaghetti strap dresses to construct a sleek rockeresque look.

Aside from the combo dress, I am a proud supporter of the mom jean revolution, so I matched a pair of distressed-hem Levi’s I scored from a local thrift store. Keeping the ‘90s vibe alive, I added a black leather choker, and a bold pair of Forever 21 platform booties to top it off.

From jelly sandals, to scrunchies, to bodysuits, we have yet to outgrow the ‘90s, decades later. These trends have resurrected themselves once again, and you best get on them before it’s too late.
