STYLE GURU STYLE: 50 Shades of Marsala

Fall is the most wonderful time of year. We are graced with perfect weather, beautiful scenery and lets not forget New York Fashion Week! My absolute favorite part about fall is its colors. I was so excited by the color trends I saw for fall 2015; one color in particular stood out to me and it also happens to be the official Pantone color of the year–marsala.

Marsala has made its way on to some of the biggest runway shows for fall 2015. Marsala is a winey red-brown and its close relatives are maroon and burgundy. I was inspired by the Zac Posen fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection because I appreciate the use of various shades and forms of marsala. The color is creatively used on many different garments and has been used on masculine and feminine designs. Marsala’s cool tone is the perfect complement to the natural warm colors of autumn. Marsala is warm, robust and adds sophistication to any garment or outfit.

I was inspired to rock this color trend in two different ways. First, I found a garment in marsala and built the outfit from there. This marsala-colored midi skirt (which is another trend this fall) and paired it with a matching felt floppy hat. I gave some edge to this look by adding a black mesh polka-dot crop top with lace bandeau underneath. This look is finished with a pair of light, leather peep toe booties and a black Longchamp tote. I really love this ensemble because it is so versatile and can be worn for many occasions.
