STYLE GURU BIO: Trace Ferguson

Hello everybody! I’m Trace and I will be your tour guide today…kidding. But I will be telling you all a bit about myself. I am a second year Advertising major at the University of Florida, and I’m excited to say that I am an official Style Guru for CollegeFashionista!

If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s who I am. I can say with confidence that I’m more laid back than a recliner and I’ve never been one to take myself too seriously. I’m always quick with a joke or “creative commentary,” because nothing brings me more joy than making people laugh. I love being the one to lighten up a situation or bring things into perspective. To be honest, my inner-monologue is what keeps me company most of the day. I also have an array of interests and means of expression, mostly involving artistic endeavors, but it can be hard finding the time between classes and naps to nurture my creative side. Luckily, fashion is an outlet that allows me to convey my mood and personality on a daily basis, unless I stay in my pajamas all day, but even then.

I can’t sit here and tell you that I’ve always been a fashionista because for the majority of my pre-teen life I would rock whatever my mom bought for me, although she did pick out some fierce florals and poppin’ prints. Now that I’m older my style goes through more phases than the moon. Sometimes I just want to relax in a pair of boyfriend jeans and a neutral top, and other times I want to look like The Woman in Black…minus the fact that she’s just generally terrifying (if you like horror movies, I recommend that one).

I’ve lived in Florida all my life and I’ve learned that it can be a bit tricky dressing for weather. If your clothes are too tight you will probably sweat through them, and even if they’re loose, there’s the high probability that you’ll get rained on. Despite the trials and tribulations that Florida puts me through everyday, the ability to wear shorts and crop tops three seasons straight is something that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Not to mention that crop tops make up 90 percent of my wardrobe, oops. Still waiting on the day when I won’t be tempted by a $10 dollar Forever 21 crop top.

My personal shopping problems aside, I’m pumped to be a representative of the UF fashion scene, which may not always be the most riveting, but the fashionable few are diamonds in the rough who deserve to be in the CollegeFashionista spotlight. Stay tuned for some A-1 looks and cheers to a semester in style!
