STYLE GURU BIO: Shelby Wallace

My name is Shelby Wallace and I am super excited to be part of the Guru Gang this semester! I am a senior at Florida State University with majors in retail and product development and media communication studies with a minor in business. I am originally from the sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, but am currently finishing school in Tallahassee. My current obsessions include, but are not limited to, oversized denim jackets, Vans Sk8-Hi sneakers, baseball caps, poke bowls, and the La La Land soundtrack.

I have been a fan of fashion since I started reading magazines like Nylon, Vogue, and Elle when I was in middle school. I became infatuated with designers like Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen and I knew one day I wanted to be a part of the fashion industry. Throughout college, my love for public relations and writing has flourished along with my love for fashion, and I am hoping to graduate and pursue my big city dreams in New York, working in fashion public relations.

On campus, I opt for a more casual look—usually sporting leggings and an oversized T-shirt with a pair of Vans. While it would be nice to get more dressed up for class, walking around campus all day in 80 degree weather calls for being as comfortable as possible. Off campus, I would say my personal style could be described as edgy and casual, depending on my mood.

Here, I am wearing an embroidered denim jacket from Urban Outfitters, a piece that has become a staple in my wardrobe. I decided to pair the jacket with a gray mock neck top from Nordstrom and black frayed hem jeans from the Gap. Ankle boots have been a go-to in my closet ever since I moved to Tallahassee, where cold weather comes and goes in the blink of an eye. The gold buckles and cut outs give these Jeffrey Campbell booties give the outfit an edgier vibe. I accessorized with my favorite gold initial necklace that seems to be the perfect addition to all of my outfits.

I am looking forward to having a creative outlet this semester and to showcase my personal style by being a Style Guru. I also cannot wait to be inspired by all the other Style Gurus out there who aren’t afraid to be bold.
