STYLE GURU BIO: Shannon Wilson

Nice to meet you Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Shannon MacLain Wilson, but my friends call me Shanny Mac. I am a junior at Temple University studying advertising with a concentration in art direction, and minoring in art. There’s a long list of goals that I want to accomplish in this lifetime and you can surely assume that they all include art and expression to the masses. I aspire to connect myself with the world through many art forms as I can get my hands on to break language barriers and unite people of different stories and cultures.

I would describe my style as ever-changing according to my mood and where I’m at in life socioeconomically, emotionally, physically (because my favorite jeans are just too snug nowadays), and geographically. I’m obsessed with mom jeans, liquid lipstick, and gold jewelry.

This is a quick and simple look I put together just to catch up with old friends. The best thing about winter is layers. I’m all for bundling up with sweaters, flannels, long sleeve blouses, over-the-knee boots, and knee-high socks. For another level of attitude and warmth with this look, I added a sheer black long sleeve top underneath my tan turtleneck sweater.

As much as it doesn’t make sense to have holes in your jeans when it’s cold out, they are just too hard for me to give up. If you ever stumble across the perfect fitting jeans but you really want that distressed look, then DIY it. All of my distressed jeans were cut by myself. I recommend to use scissors or utility knife, then wash and dry for the frayed look. I wore knee-high black boots not only because they are adorable, but also to keep at least half of my legs warm.

Now for the makeup, which is my favorite part since I was a toddler. Would you believe punishment for me in elementary school was getting my makeup bag taken away? Well it’s true. I chose a glossy red lip with auburn undertones to pair well with the colors in my rings and add some extra oomph to this look. My quick and sassy look is complete. I hope this inspires my fellow Fashionistas to layer pieces that complement each other and show off whatever persona you’re feeling today!
