What’s up Fashionistas/os? My name is Nicole Zawacki, and I’m going into my fourth year at the University of Washington. Like any other college student, I have dealt with my fair share of struggles figuring out my major/minor. After three years I have finally decided on majoring in communications with a focus on social and cultural interaction while also double minoring in gender, women’s and sexuality studies as well as diversity.

My relationship with everything fashion and style has been a life-long love affair. From a very young age, I have always wanted to break into the fashion world. At first I thought that fashion design was my path, but after a few sewing classes I quickly discovered that it was not for me. During my time in college, I have been able to dabble in store visuals, and this made me realize my true passion for styling.

Living in urban Seattle has only helped me fall into my own personal style. In a city of Birkenstocks, Patagonia and Hunter boots, I have been successfully able to find my own beat inspired by Seattle’s punk rock and grunge history. Seattle has been the perfect mix of everything that I love: food, new people and incredible street style.

The powers that be, the fashion gods if you will, have finally decided that chokers, flared denim and all things ’70s are making a comeback right now. I don’t know about you, but I could not be more on board with this. Featured in my look I have implemented a few of my absolute favorite trends.

Denim never goes out of style, and when you find the right pair, it’s literally like finding your soulmate. You know what I mean—that feeling of pulling on a great pair of denim that you know will hold it’s shape all day and makes your legs feel a mile long? To elevate your denim but still stay edgy, you just need a few simple but key pieces. One of my favorites is a choker. Chokers come in an infinite number of styles now, not just those stretchy ones we all wore in elementary and middle school, so take a look and find one that best reflects your personal style. Finally, throw on some booties with a heel to elevate your denim even further. My new personal obsession are the booties with a peep in the front and the back of the shoe. I love these because it puts a new twist on the classic bootie that you can enjoy while the weather is still warm enough to not have to worry about frostbite.

Fashion is my one true love, and I am beyond thrilled to be able to go on this rad journey with you all. I cannot wait to continue writing and show off the fashion sense of my fellow Seattleites!
