STYLE GURU BIO: Nata Lopponen

Hiya! My name is Nata Lopponen and I’m a senior at Arcada in Helsinki, Finland. My name is pronounced Na-da, and yes, I know that means “nothing” in Spanish; believe me the jokes I hear every time I introduce myself in the U.S. is ridiculous. Anyway, now that you know how to say my name correctly, you should know some other fun facts about me.

I’m a Finnish-American, meaning that I’m a first generation American who was born in Connecticut, but have Finnish parents. I speak the language fluently and I’m going to college here because it’s free (yay no student loans!). I’ve been completely captured by Helsinki and this is where my fashion identity truly kicked off. It’s given me the opportunity to witness beautiful people and their unique styles for the last three years.

I’m so excited to be a Style Guru with CollegeFashionista. My first fashion memory was in kindergarden when I begged my mom to buy me a pair of purple, glittered platform sneakers from Sketchers. I would pair them with a baseball hat backwards and my trust-worthy choker necklace that I still adore to this day. I was a spunky kid who had mixed emotions about wearing all-pink or dressing like my brother, but over the years I’ve had some major fashion flunks. This is why I’m always inspired by well-dressed people who pass me by and I make sure to keep up with the latest trends.

One of my favorite things is this bodycon dress. It’s a piece every girl should have in their closet. I wore this to a wedding with black pumps, and I have never felt more connected to Kim Kardashian before in my life. This dress can be dressed up (get the pun?) or down. To have more of an edgier statement I paired it with my favorite floral jacket of all-time. It is the adidas brand—shoutout to my amazing mother who bought it for herself yet let me take it to another country. Mom, you are an angel. The colorful florals in this jacket are perfect, and the sporty street style reminds me of Rita Ora and Moschino. These ankle strap heels are the most comfortable high-heels I own. I could dance all night in them. As for my hat, it gives me the best sporty-chic look paired with a choker necklace.

I’m excited to find Fashionistas/os around my campus this fall, and I can’t wait for you to follow my posts! Remember to RAD on your way out.
