STYLE GURU BIO: Michelle Barrera

Hello! My name is Michelle Barrera, and this will be my second semester with CollegeFashionista. I am in my senior year at Pace University in Manhattan, majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Marketing. Specifically, I’d like to go into Brand Management and Digital Communication Strategy. While my photography skills are no where near professional, CollegeFashionista has given me the opportunity to practice and the confidence to share my work publicly. I tend to be private in some areas of my life and like to keep things low key most of the time, so sharing my posts week to week was a big step for me. However, I’m glad I joined CollegeFashionista at the time I did (this past summer), because as most college students, our minds are constantly hopping from one idea to the next, creatively expanding and stimulating our interests as we go.

Aside from fall articles with CollegeFashionista, I am interning at a small media company in Midtown, which I am very excited about. I can’t wait to share different styles and personas from all areas in the city. I have always been interested in personal style, especially trends that recycle themselves, and I strongly admire all forms of self-expression. My outfit here includes ripped high-rise white denim jeans, a gray tank top from Zara and a Madewell jean jacket. My go-to shopping stores are Zara, Brandy Melville, Topshop and Aritzia when I can afford it.

Outside of school and participating in the real world, I like to float away from the day-to-day by discovering new sounds on SoundCloud and tuning into my favorite artists. At the moment, I am loving sounds from Majid Jordan, OVO Sound Radio, Soulection, Alina Baraz, FKA Twigs and always BANKS. Just like style, music tells stories about ourselves and our character we can’t form into words publicly. Singing and songwriting is something I keep mostly private, but it is very close to who I am.

All personalities and styles are different, originating from everywhere and anywhere, and it’s refreshing to see so many come together on this site. I hope some of my tastes and likes I bring this semester appeal to some of yours. Stay tuned!
