STYLE GURU BIO: Maria Colalancia

Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Maria Colalancia. I am a sophomore studying Retailing with an emphasis in Fashion Merchandising at the University of South Carolina. I am so excited to begin my semester with CollegeFashionista!

Fashion is that one thing in life that just excites me. I’m totally in love with it. I love the power and the presence it has. It provides so much freedom to a wide variety of people. My personal style is very eclectic, I’ll wear just about anything, it just depends on the day. And generally, if Olivia Palermo is wearing it, I would love to be wearing it too. She has the best style, hands down.

I’ve lived in the south for the past seven years of my life and obviously am going to college in the south. The nice but also not so nice thing about living in the south is the heat. You don’t really get much of fall around here, it’s like summer extended, even though according to the calendar you are in the middle of what should be considered “fall.” You can wear shorts well into October, which makes dressing for fall interesting but fun. That being said, my go to outfits for this coming season are most likely going to include a pair of shorts and a pair of ankle boots/booties. Booties are my latest obsession, I can’t stop buying them. I think they help make a pair of shorts look a little more fall appropriate. I’m also loving the ’70s bohemian trend that’s going on right now and a lot of my personal style lately has been influenced by those looks as you can see in my current outfit. You can expect to see me this fall in a lot of simple, loose fitting shirts with layered necklaces, high waisted jeans, flow-y dresses and tunics, and knits. I will also most likely have a coffee in my hand. Does that count as an accessory?

I’m looking forward to a rad semester reporting on all things fashion on USC’s campus! Be sure to check back on the 15th of each month for a new article!
