STYLE GURU BIO: Makenzie Stewart

Hey Fashionistas! I am Makenzie and this is my first semester with CollegeFashionista. I love that I am starting off the new year with this new opportunity. I was beyond excited to be chosen to be an intern for the spring 2017 semester.  I am currently a freshman at Kent State University majoring in fashion merchandising. This internship is truly going to help me in my major by giving me experience and exposure in the fashion world.

Fashion has always been a true passion of mine, but I never thought about making it my lifestyle until my senior year of high school.  I had always wanted to be a doctor growing up, but I came to a realization that I would rather do something I truly love for the rest of my life. I have a very creative and artistic mind, and I didn’t want to put that to waste. I live in a smaller town and fashion isn’t really as important as it is in big cities. To me, it has always been a way to express myself.

My style tends to be all over the place and constantly changing. I love trying different trends while still being true to my own style. My style can go from an alternative grunge look consisting mostly of dark colors, to a bohemian look consisting of floral prints and bright colors. I get most of my inspiration from different types of music and what I’m listening to during that time. I also get inspiration from seeing what others are wearing, whether it be something I see on campus or on social media.

For this look, I pieced together some of my favorite items from my wardrobe. Booties are a big part of my shoe collection lately. I guess you could say that I have a little bit of an obsession. The snakeskin booties pictured are currently my favorite pair, especially because they look great with most clothes. The suede, fringe jacket pictured is also a staple of mine. I love it because it really expresses my style and it can be paired with many things as well. It can be paired with a nicer outfit or just thrown on over a vintage band tee. The jeans I’m wearing in the pictures are a favorite trend of mine right now. They are very retro with the two-toned denim, the fringed bottoms, and the boyfriend fit.
