STYLE GURU BIO: Lindsay Kaplan

Hey there, Fashionistas/os! I’m extremely excited to announce that I am back for another semester with the CollegeFashionista family. My senior year at SUNY Oneonta has approached quickly. Here, I am a Fashion and Textiles major concentrating in Merchandising and minoring in Business.

Throughout these past couple of years at Oneonta, I’ve been presented with immense amounts of opportunity pertaining to my fashion interests. As a member of the Student Fashion Society, I was able to participate as a stylist and designer for the annual fashion shows. Last semester I was given the chance to intern at a local boutique in Oneonta, called Transitions Boutique in addition to interning as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. These prospects have helped pave the way for me to land an internship in NYC this summer at Almost Famous Clothing.

Interning in the city this summer gave me a little glimpse of the real world. Before the internship I felt, like most college students do I’m sure, that I was still a kid on the outside of the fish tank looking in. For the past couple of years I’ve been confined to my campus, college dorm rooms and dining hall food. College is a huge step to finding yourself and becoming a little more independent from your home life. However, it seems as if there’s nothing that can truly prepare you for the life that lies ahead. Prior to this internship commuting on a train for an hour and 20 minutes, gallivanting around the city and entering a real work environment all by myself seemed next to impossible. Now that I’ve completed my internship I’ve realized that nothing is impossible with an ambitious mind and hard work. The NYC scene was a large adjustment for me this summer, but I no longer feel like the little kid peering through the fish tank.

Although I’m grateful for all the opportunities that I have been awarded these past three years, I’m still terrified of what lies ahead. Your whole life you always know exactly of what is next to come. When I was in my last year of junior high I knew I would be going to high school and then off to college. But now what? As I’m ready to embark on my senior year there is no telling for certain where I will be one week after graduation let alone five years after. So I’m giving myself as well my fellow seniors a little reminder when I quote my favorite childhood author, Dr. Suess, “You now have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

The thought of graduating is both exciting and terrifying. However, let’s not rush things. Us seniors still have another year of college, which means another year of CollegeFashionista articles. So stay tuned for my articles coming every month this semester featuring the hottest beauty trends, the cutest dresses, the most extravagant statement necklaces and all that good stuff.
