STYLE GURU BIO: Lauren Black

Hey babes! I’m Lauren Black and I’m entering my senior year at the University of Southern California (USC) as a Public Relations major and French minor. I’m originally from Orange County, CA, but have spent the past few years in L.A. balancing school with internships at trendsetting fashion brands in the Arts District and blogger talent management agencies in Beverly Hills. I love constantly learning about how the fashion industry works.

I’m an obsessive consumer of fashion media: I spend all my available time pouring through magazines, blogs and social media. Between the curated and the candid sources, I’m never running out of style inspiration—so much so that I like to edit down the trends that I spot and share my favorites with fellow USC students on our Fashion Society Club blog. I have a natural inclination to offer up style advice, whether with friends, while working retail, or through online platforms. Pair this passion with my love for writing and it’s no wonder why I’m an aspiring fashion editor or fashion journalist (so being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista is the perfect first step!).

Ironically, despite the overload of inspiration I filter through on a daily basis, my personal style has become increasingly classic and casual. Though I make nods to my bohemian, California-girl roots and my grunge-y, Brandy-inspired days, I’ve recently begun simplifying my style. My OOTDs usually consist of subdued palettes and only hints of one or two playful street style trends. After a semester abroad in the fashion capital of the world, Paris, I’m usually just trying to embody that effortless French attitude and sleek European sophistication. I loved all the fast fashion available in Europe that can be easily mixed with designer pieces and unique finds from small brands. My favorite items in my closet right now that I’ve picked up across the globe are a pair of adidas Superstars, this cozy fringed sweater and my beloved baby-pink Kenzo bag.

Besides watching dramatic movies or reading juicy books on influencers and heroes (real or faux), in my occasional spare time, I love relaxing at the beach, exploring cities, visiting art exhibits, and hanging with friends. I can’t wait to spend more time with all you Fashionistas/os this fall!
