STYLE GURU BIO: Kristen Vaughn

Hello fellow fashion lovers! My name is Kristen Vaughn, and I am a senior at the University of Tennessee majoring in Anthropology as well as a concentration in Pre-Medical Studies. With hopes of graduating this December, I thought that an internship with CollegeFashionista this semester would be a fun and new experience to partake in before ending my college career.

I absolutely love my school and the city of Knoxville because I have grown and learned so much from being immersed in them. I have had the opportunity to study under notable anthropologists and volunteer at the famous Anthropological Research Facility. In the future, I hope that I will be able to attend graduate school or medical school for either Forensic Anthropology or Pathology. As you may be able to tell, I am quite the nerd! I am so fascinated by oddities and variation as well as being able to educate people on what I know. In my spare time, I am fortunate enough to represent various brands on my campus. This is something I enjoy because I really believe in the brands that I am supporting. Additionally, I enjoy long-distance running and spending time with my dog, which is a pug mix that I adopted from a local animal shelter. I have such a huge heart for animals, and I fully endorse finding homes for them all!

As far as fashion is concerned, I have always had an intuition for forecasting what trends would be popular. I love using fashion to express myself. Appearance is usually the first thing people see, so it is important to make a great first impression without being generic. I like to dress for my mood or what style I’m trying to evoke for that day. I also tend to incorporate this in my beauty routine. I have noticed that my style has become more conservative over the years but still expressive enough to not be plain and boring. Lilly Pulitzer is one of my favorite brands for accomplishing this! I also understand that with fashion, it is best to splurge on nice items that you can wear again and again. I try not to spend as much on pieces that are really popular trends and will go out of style months later.

With this outfit, I wanted to channel my inner 90s child and love of daisies.   I am wearing a daisy crop top, a skirt that is worn a little high on the waist with a cute bow accent, my adorable child-like socks from Forever 21, my slightly heeled jelly shoes from JuJu and my beautiful stackable daisy rings from Pandora. Finally, I have on a Lokai bracelet as well as many Pura Vida Bracelets that support various causes.

I am looking forward to you all reading my articles and seeing how my work, hopefully, improves throughout the semester!
