STYLE GURU BIO: Kayla Torter

Hey guys! My name is Kayla and this is my third semester interning for CollegeFashionista. I love this internship because it allows me to write about something very close to my heart, fashion. Fashion has always been an enormous part of my life and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to study fashion design at Marist College. Even though design is all consuming, I love every minute of it.

I am thrilled to be back interning this spring semester. As you all know, the beginning of the spring semester is not quite what we believe spring to be. Since the weather is still unbearably cold on most days in January through March, I will try my best this semester to give you all some tips on staying warm without sacrificing good style. Later in the semester when the sun starts to come out, I will hopefully be able to give you some style advice for dressing in the warmer weather.

If I had to describe my personal style in one word I would say simple. I tend to wear neutral colors such as black, brown, gray, white, and tans. It is easier to dress in this color palette because the shades all match with almost everything. Additionally, these colors tend to complement almost any skin tone.

In this particular look, I chose to wear a black top, black jeans, and black Nike sneakers. Since I had a completely black base, I could wear any color jacket I wanted (black goes with anything). I picked one of my favorite taupe colored leather jackets. This jacket is one of my favorites because it has a knit, tan colored lining with a hood, which makes it more comfortable and adds unexpected detail to a typical leather jacket. As for accessories, I also like to keep it very simple. I wore a pair of pearl earrings and a thin silver choker with little crystal details.

As I said before, I am very excited to be back interning this spring and I sincerely hope that I can give you some helpful advice that will keep you looking effortlessly stylish on campus. Have a great semester!
