STYLE GURU BIO: Kasey Steward

Hello fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Kasey Steward and I currently attend Johnson and Wales University as a sophomore majoring in Fashion Merchandising and retail marketing. I am a fashion addict, avid blogger and photography enthusiast. As earIy as I could remember, I was always infatuated with everything fashion. I was quite the diva – or so I was told- at the age of seven strutting around the shoe department in women’s heels as if it came as easily to me as breathing or drinking water.

I look back at pictures from sixth grade and am horrified. A fedora paired with a neon cotton dress calf length leggings and sparkly kitten heels is a literal train wreck – what was I thinking! But hey, I guess that was just a vital yet embarrassing step in my journey of experimenting with self expression and the art of fashion.

Both of my parents actually studied law, so fashion wasn’t necessarily the most conventional career path. I, however, am very lucky and beyond thankful that they have always been nothing but supportive of my dream to work in this industry. I am ambitious and motivated to work hard in school so that I can be successful in attaining my aspirations. Nonetheless, it wasn’t the aura of illustriousness that initially drew me into the field – although that is a potential benefit. I was rather fixated on the power fashion has to influence people. It is more than a medium to express creativity–it is a potent instrument in making a lasting impression. In other words. it goes a long way to motivate and inspire others.

I  try to constantly saturate myself in fashion inspiration by getting involved in as many different channels of creative insight as I have access to. This year, I will hold an executive board position on the Johnson and Wales International Fashion Society for PR and social media. I will also be dedicating a lot of long hours to work on my blog website in addition to many other independent ventures. I can already tell that it’s going to be a great year and I’m so excited to be part of the college fashionista team and share my passion with equally devout readers!

The outfit I am sporting in this post is one of my favorite style classics: an all black ensemble. In the spirit of versatility, I decided to be photographed wearing two versions of this outfit – one that is simple; with a flowy top, skinny jeans and booties, and a more glammed up version swapping out the booties for crystal-flecked stilettos and layering a  fitted blazer on top for a polished touch. Not only is all black flattering ,chic, and timeless but it is a sure way to instant-fabulous.
