STYLE GURU BIO: Junette Reyes

Hello my fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Junette Reyes and I am an incoming Style Guru reporting from Florida International University for the spring 2015 semester.

I am majoring in both Psychology and Criminal Justice; however, my true passion lies in Journalism. I discovered this by writing for our student-run newspaper named The Beacon. I eventually acquired the role of Editor-in-Chief, which is what I am today.

Before I took on this current role, I held the position of Entertainment Director, which oversaw the production of the section that focused on campus lifestyle. It was with this particular section that my interest in fashion journalism began, as I assisted one of my staff writers that contributed a weekly fashion column to the publication. I became more observant of the campus trends ever since.

My particular take on fashion isn’t easily narrowed down to one category. I really take inspiration from all types of trends that intrigue me, whether it be old or new. I especially like defying Miami’s sunny weather by regularly wearing long sleeved clothing and darker palettes. I am a big fan of wearing all black and mixing masculine pieces with feminine pieces, such as incorporating plaid into my outfits. Still, you can almost always find me in a skater dress of any color or print accompanied by my many assorted pairs of boots and a bold red lip.

In my book, nothing completes a look better than jewelry, especially the kind that doesn’t quite match. I swear I am a gypsy in this sense and always have my fingers completely adorned with a variety of rings. A simple necklace with a clock pendant and dangling earrings usually accompany this.

Although my fashion sense can be eclectic as it is, I am really looking forward to being a Style Guru to find new styles that we can all add to our wardrobes. For this upcoming semester, I look forward to focusing on the many ways my fellow students take their outfits to the next step as well as showing you how you too can achieve these looks.
