STYLE GURU BIO: Julia O’Brien

Hello to all the wonderful Fashionistas/os out there! My name is Julia O’Brien and this is my third semester interning with the CollegeFashionista team. I’m a junior at the University of Washington in Seattle and am interested in studying communications. Since I was little, I’ve always loved flipping through magazines and people watching for style influence, so I am thrilled to be continuing my love for fashion with CollegeFashionista! I’m so excited for this semester and have a feeling it’s going to be the most fashionable one yet!

My own style changes and evolves all the time, sometimes with the trends and sometimes against them. I like to wear what makes me feel comfortable, confident, and most importantly, true to myself. I always think it’s important to dress for yourself and not for others. For this outfit, I chose a more casual look, which is how I usually dress. Here, I’m wearing leggings made of one of my favorite fabrics: velvet. You can find similar leggings here. Velvet articles of clothing are great since they give a subtle texture, heaviness, and richness to an outfit. For my top, I chose a basic, light pink, striped shirt that pairs perfectly with my infinity scarf. I love scarves during this time of year since not only are they practical, but they also are the best accessory to almost every outfit. For this outfit I also layered a flowy and fun kimono that adds a sense of lightness that balances the heaviness of the leggings. For shoes I chose a comfortable pair of sneakers that have a comfortable hidden heel that gives me some height since I’m on the shorter side at 5’2”. For jewelry, I’m wearing a dainty and personal bracelet that has my name. Overall, I would categorize this outfit as casual boho look, a look you can wear to class, a date, or casual get together with friends.

I’m looking forward to seeing what all you Fashionistas/os are wearing this semester! Can’t wait to write about your looks and be inspired by your personal styles!
