STYLE GURU BIO: Jen Morgan

Hey, Fashionista/os! My name is Jen Morgan, and I’m a senior journalism student at Messiah College. I have loved keeping up with CollegeFashionista since my first year of college, and I’m thrilled to be part of the team this fall during my final year in school.

Although my mom has said I’ve always been particular when it comes to my outfits, it wasn’t until my junior year of high school that I really started to tap into my own personal style. Prior to that, you could usually find me in destroyed band T-shirts, Converse sneakers in obnoxious colors, skinny jeans or bright mini skirts. Unfortunately, there were days when I paired all of these items together simultaneously, and I hope you’ll forgive me.

Now, I fully embrace all that fashion does for our society; it allows for creative expression, showcases a highly interactive medium of art and brings all types of people together under a common interest. I tend to get my fashion inspiration from Pinterest, magazines, my friends and style bloggers like Gabi Fresh.

I was able to grasp the power of fashion last semester more than ever, as I spent about four months studying abroad in London, where inspiration was constantly at my fingertips. I even got to experience London’s version of Savage Beauty by Alexander McQueen at the Victoria and Albert museum, which was by far the most magical and stunning museum exhibit I’ve ever seen.

I usually dress for function, so many of the items in my closet are neutral. When I want to add a pop of color, I’ll usually do so with a bright lipstick or cute shoes. My three favorite prints are definitely leopard (a neutral in my world), floral and polka-dot.  I wear earrings every day, and about 95 percent of the time I choose to wear pearls. I tried to let those preferences show in this outfit, which has a little bit of color against the main black theme.

I look forward to sharing the styles that catch my eye this semester with you, and I hope you follow along for the ride!
