STYLE GURU BIO: Janny Bui

Hi there! I’m Janny Bui and I am currently a Marketing major here at Boise State University. Ever since I was a little girl, the fashion industry was always something I knew I wanted to be a part of. I had unlimited access to gorgeous fabrics and a top notch sewing machine to learn on; thanks to my mom who is a seamstress and tailor. I later put my fashion abilities to good use by creating, designing and sewing my way up to Nationals for a Fashion Design competition. The competition taught me that the fashion world requires hard work and long nights perfecting your pieces, but in the end it’s all worth it if you love it.

Since I grew up in a suburban town, I always felt like my fashion inspiration was sometimes limited. I was scared of feeling alienated since fashion was a career not a lot of people I grew up with usually choose. However, going into college I began to realize that being yourself is totally cool and going after your dreams is even cooler. So this opportunity as a Style Guru is incredible because it will let me meet people on campus who feel the same way I do about fashion, and give me the chance to do what I love!

For my first semester as a Style Guru, I have decided to change up my look going into my second year of college. Trying out new looks and trends is always a great experience for me because where’s the fun in sticking to just one style? I think as a Fashionista/o, it’s great to keep an open mind in trying different trends. It’s like the saying, “You don’t know if you’ll like it, until you try it on.” This year, I am aiming for a casual minimalistic style, a bit like Miley Cyrus before her “Wrecking Ball” days. My outfit consists of a simple black T-shirt dress paired with a silver multi-chain statement necklace and a silver watch. I have also paired my outfit with black combat heeled boots to give it some edge. You can also change up this outfit with a pair of black sandals and a flannel tied around the waist for an easy-going look.

I am ecstatic to begin my journey as a Style Guru and capture all of the amazing styles I see on campus. See you all soon, this is going to be one RAD semester!
