STYLE GURU BIO: Imani Hassan

Hi there! My name is Imani and I’m a junior studying public relations and creative writing at Eastern Michigan University. I have always loved talking to people and getting to know who they are from the stories they tell and of course, through their fashion. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, so I’m super excited to see what’s in store!

This may sound like an overused fashion rule, but for me, it has withstood the test of time: having black in your closet is a must. For some, that means having a few T-shirts and black jeans on deck. For others, myself included, it’s pretty much the unseen thread that ties our wardrobe together. You can never have too many neutrals and black pieces because these are colors that serve as a base. You can build off from them, giving you more options and chances to utilize your creativity without overdoing it.

Fashion is all about expression, but it’s also about seeing what works and from there, creating versatile pieces that last. I personally believe that you don’t always need to have crazy patterns and prints. For me, it’s all in the details. Having crisp, solid pieces gives you the chance to experiment with colors and statement jewelry that you otherwise wouldn’t have tried. My fashion mantra has always been that trends may come and go, but black never goes out of style. It’s the difference that can make you feel like you just stepped out of the pages of Vogue, or like an invincible ninja on a mission. No matter what, one thing’s for sure: it will withstand the test of time.

For this look, I took a dark blue blouse and paired it with a black structured jacket, black leggings, and black gloves. I am absolutely obsessed with leggings as you can dress them up or down and since I’m always out and about, I like the comfort and versatility it gives me. To give a little flare, I wore my knee-high black boots and adding a pop of color, wore a mint green necklace from H&M.

I hope you’re as into this look as I am. For constant updates on my posts, don’t forget to follow me on social media. I can’t wait to vibe and connect with you all!
