STYLE GURU BIO: Emmy Nicholson

Hi everyone! My name is Emmy Nicholson and I am a senior at Arizona State University. I’m studying Journalism and trying to decide whether to focus on public relations or editorial in my attempt to conquer the fashion world. I am currently interning at a Scottsdale-based public relations firm to hopefully get an idea if PR is the right choice for me! I can’t wait to dive into an industry that I basically know nothing about and get to learn everyday.

I just returned from a semester abroad in Paris, so expect a French lesson or two in my posts. Although the fashion scene is a little less intense in here Phoenix, Arizona, I’m still taking all of the Parisian street style inspiration I brought back with me and applying it to my everyday outfits here. I can confidently say I have found my ultimate sense of style goals, and it is 100 percent Parisian women.

When it comes to my style, I love all things feminine, ranging from lacy chiffon shorts or a classic pair of ankle-strap pumps. I was raised as a shameless bargain hunter, but as I got older, I started to notice that I had a ton of clothes in my closet that I bought solely because they were on sale. This made me realize that it’s okay to splurge on a nice piece of clothing every so often because you will really cherish it and you will definitely take better care of it.

That’s how I found myself with this Marc by Marc Jacobs button-down. Even though I bought it from Nordstrom Rack, I definitely consider this piece a splurge because of its quality and original price tag. I love taking typically more masculine silhouettes and turning them into something ultra feminine, so I paired this blouse with some little black shorts with lace trim and a dainty pair of perforated white flats. Add in a classic, black handbag and you are good to go.

My favorite part about creating a new outfit is taking something classic and styling it in a new and different way. Follow my posts to see my interpretations of the latest trends, along with those of my fellow Sun Devils.
