Hi! My name is Emily Murray and I am so excited to be starting my second semester as a Style Guru. Of all bittersweet realities, I will be a senior at Michigan State University this fall majoring in Professional Writing and minoring in Public Relations. After graduation, I have dreams of pursuing a career as a writer for a fashion magazine. But for now, I am just looking forward to a fashionable fall semester, featuring some of campus’ own Fashionistas/os.
Beginning this new school year, I am definitely feeling a strong sense of nostalgia. It seems like I was just a freshman, totally unsure of how to navigate college life and lost in so many directions. However, my passion for writing quickly helped me choose an academic route. Outside of the classroom, I joined the MSU Dance Club as well as the staff of VIM Magazine, MSU’s exclusive fashion publication, and eventually started fashioning my own Spartan style.
Fitting into life as a MSU Spartan was similar to claiming my personal style; it took some revamping, a lot of trial and error, an occasional re-wear and many lessons learned. My experiences here at MSU have helped shape my wardrobe into a combination of sassy yet sweet looks that reflect my personality. I love to shake things up by mixing spunky trends with classically simple pieces, and I think that bold hues are always a good choice for a pop of color (read more about my color craze on my blog, From Me To Hue).
Red is currently one of my fashion favorites because it is so fearless. On a late August day, I chose to wear my red skater skirt with a basic, white button-up blouse. Both pieces had a flowy design but the textured contrast between the cotton and sheer fabrics helped balance it out in a casual and feminine way. I accessorized my ensemble with a dainty, double-layered necklace and added a trendy touch by going for a pair of booties, which are a must-have item for fall in my opinion.
