STYLE GURU BIO: Emily Doherty

Hello, Fashionistas/os! My name is Emily Doherty and I am (as of last week) a senior at Valparaiso University. I am graduating with a degree concentrated in Public Relations and I also hold a minor in Creative Writing. I am thrilled to be returning this fall as a Style Guru.

Around the end of the last spring semester, I applied to become a Style Guru on a whim. I did not know exactly what this opportunity had in store for me, but I knew that I wanted to gain experience in fashion journalism and had heard nothing but great things about the internship. I am so glad I was able to join the CollegeFashionista team and learn more about fashion, photography and writing.

Over the summer, I packed my suitcases and headed to Denver, Colorado where I worked as an editorial intern for Denver Style Magazine. From there, I was able to meet many influencers in the Denver fashion scene and beyond. In addition to my editorial internship, I was lucky enough to find a part-time job at local Denver boutique, Common Era. The mix between fulfilling my Style Guru duties, interning at a fashion magazine and working as a stylist has provided me knowledge about the industry I hope to one day (next year) work in.

Consistently having the opportunity to interact with stylish individuals in the Mile High City made being a Style Guru even more exciting. I loved the sartorial choices that Coloradoans made on a daily basis. As you may have guessed, the style in the city was very, very boho-chic. Denver inspired my daily outfits, which included the one in today’s post. I try sticking to ensembles that are simple but also visually interesting through accessorizing. My chambray dress, hat, leather bracelets and off-white booties all tie my outfit together in a casual cool way.

While I am sad that this summer had to come to an end, I am looking forward to finding Fashionista/os around my own campus in order to showcase stylish individuals at Valparaiso University.
