STYLE GURU BIO: Courtney Pelot

After an unbelievable summer interning for Neely by VNB in New York City and attending fabulous events with the CollegeFashionista team and RAD Style Gurus from across the country, I’m back in Madison to kick off my senior year and third year as a Style Guru. This summer was more rewarding than I could have possibly imagined, but I’m happy to hop back into hunting Midwestern Fashionistas/os and meeting with the Wisconsin Style Guru team over hot cups of coffee and pumpkin flavored treats. Besides getting back to Taco Tuesday’s at my favorite restaurant, Bassett Street Brunch Club, lounging on the terrace and badger game days on Saturdays, I’m thrilled to tackle a year of interesting courses and begin working as Moda Magazine’s fashion editor.

As a fall obsessed Fashionista, I’ve anxiously been awaiting the return of cozy sweaters, chic booties and furry coats since the temperatures spiked in early June. While my go-to outfit is a comfy T-shirt paired with a skirt, I’m excited to begin adding on the layers and mixing up my look with even deeper colors and heavier fabrics, like leather and suede. I’ve fallen hard for this season’s fringe trend and have already added a few of these redhot items to my wardrobe.

I’m definitely going to miss having my all-time favorite stores like Zara and Topshop just a subway ride away. I’ll also miss roaming through my favorite designers’ flagship stores, like alice + olivia, Alexander Wang and Dolce&Gabbana. After a trip to these boutiques, I always left inspired and dreaming of the day I can add some of those designer pieces to my own wardrobe. To remedy the lack of adequate retailers in Madison, I’m going to have to get back to a leisurely pastime—online shopping—to get the sleek fall pieces I’m coveting. On my back-to-school shopping list? I’m on the prowl for a fun fur coat to wear throughout the blustery fall and winter. As I mentioned, my skirts, whether they be midi, mini or pencil, are on heavy rotation in my wardrobe. I’m looking to add a couple new ones with uniquely printed fabrics or intricate details to my closet. Also on my must-have list is the perfect white button-up that I can pair with everything from leather leggings to comfy jeans.

Are you all as ready as I am to dive into the fall season and new semester? Let’s make this autumn the best and most fashionable yet!
