STYLE GURU BIO: Christina Ruenes

Hey, Fashionistas/os! My name is Christina Ruenes and this fall I will be a junior at Quinnipiac University where I am currently pursuing a degree in International Business with a minor in Marketing.

I was born and raised in the heart of Long Island, but have been fortunate enough to travel to different parts of not only the United States, but also the world. Over the years my love for travel and experiencing new cultures has blossomed—ultimately leading me to studying business on a global scale.

My love and interest in fashion, however, was always evident from the start. I guess you could even say my infatuation with fashion was almost inevitable, or even innate. My maternal grandfather was a pattern-maker for Calvin Klein and my cousin is currently an assistant handbag designer at Henri Bendel. While my relatives have taken a creative route, I find myself more attracted to the corporate side of the fashion industry. I currently have been working in a specialty apparel retail store for almost a year and a half to learn the basics of the business.

When I’m not cramped up in a library cubicle doing homework (procrastinating), you can probably find me laying in my bed binge watching One Tree Hill, drinking mass amounts of Iced coffee or convincing my friends to go on adventures that require car ride sing-alongs to classic throwback anthems.

As a busy college student, what I wear can sometimes be the last thing on my mind when I am getting ready for class in the morning. However, over the past year I have been very inspired by Miley Cyrus’ style circa 2012. I am a fan of that laid-back, simplistic, yet perfectly accessorized look. Her casual chic street style during this time still has me in absolute awe.

For an everyday look this past summer, I classically have thrown my hair up into a high bun with minimal makeup. In this specific outfit I paired two of my favorite transitional pieces: a crop top and a maxi skirt, both of which can carry over from the summer into the early fall. I added my favorite black ankle strap sandals, as well as a gold and black cuff, a black braided bracelet and a long geometric gold necklace to finish off my look.

I am so grateful and excited for the opportunity to be apart of the CollegeFashionista team this semester. I’m looking forward to a RAD semester of fashion with all of you!
