STYLE GURU BIO: Cassidy Crawford

Hello Fashionastas/os, and welcome to my second semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! I’m Cassidy and I’m so excited to be back writing articles and capturing awesome fashions for you all to enjoy, and draw inspiration and ideas from. I’m a sophomore fashion merchandising major at the University of Delaware, and this huge university holds a special place in my heart. Home for me is South Jersey, but Delaware is definitely my home away from home. Aside from fashion, and of course shopping, I love being around friends and family, and enjoying my summers on the beach with a good book and a Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee in hand.

I come from a family of five, smack in the middle of an older and a younger sister with two amazing parents. With a successful business career, my dad is a huge inspiration to me and for the boutique I hope to open one day, and my mom is definitely my best friend. That being said, I wanted to feature a look that was inspired by my mother to kick off this semester, so that you all can understand where my love for black and statement pieces came from. My mom is notorious for wearing black all the time and often all-black outfits, a trend that my older sister quickly adopted as well. With my light hair and inspiration from both my mom and sister, I too fell into the (literal) black hole of black is always the new black. My mom is also very stylish and always looking to her three daughters to dress to impress 24/7, with statements from jewelry to jackets.

To create this look, I wanted to start with a simple black long-sleeve top from Forever 21 and build off of that with separate statement pieces. Instead of going for the classic all-black outfit, I opted for my super comfortable dark grey jeans to provide some contrast. The main part of this look is my fur vest, a statement piece that I believe everyone needs in their closet. It’s perfect for a night out, keeping you warm and giving off major winter vibes. Knee-high and over-the-knee boots are another statement that I’ve been seeing more and more of lately, so of course I had to incorporate this trend into this look; you can simply never go wrong with a good pair of black boots or booties. The lacing on the back of these boots is what caught my eye and persuaded me to purchase them—I love the detail it adds to a casual pair of otherwise plain boots. For jewelry, I decided to keep it minimal and added my grandmother’s gold necklace to match the gold on the back of my boots.

Fashion is a unique form of self-expression and something I hold very close to my heart. This semester, I hope to inspire all of you with my personal style as well as my favorite looks from around campus.
