STYLE GURU BIO: Calla Gillins

Hello, Fashionistas/os! I’m Calla (like the flower). I’m studying Apparel Merchandising and Studio Art at Indiana University. I’m aiming to become a fashion and beauty photographer and hope to work for my beloved fashion magazines one day soon.

I love photography, fashion, beauty and people: when they’re all combined it’s perfection! Our individuality and uniqueness is awesome. We have so many ways to express ourselves and fashion is one of my favorites. This is why I love people-watching and why I am so excited to be a Style Guru this semester! I hope to find a variety of personalities with their own approach.

Personally, my look changes depending on my mood or my destination. While I don’t think we should be confined to one type, I do love my go-tos! It’s nice to have those dependable items you know are always there for you when in doubt. When I need a quick ensemble, I love a good army green vest. A vest has all the perks of a blazer without ever letting me sweat. It’s more casual and more comfortable. Pair it with a pair of ankle pants that’s comfortable and versatile (not to mention easy to throw on when in a hurry). Finally, and in my opinion most importantly, the go-to shoes. My favorite shoes are worn-in, comfortable and still full of personality. A beat up pear of suede booties have great character: I love mine! Mine have a thick heel so they’re comfortable walking around and they’ve got a strip of fringe because fringe is fabulous! Then I throw on some simple gold jewelry and I’m pretty much ready for anything that comes my way.
