STYLE GURU BIO: Alex Garcia

My name is Alex and I go to California Polytechnic in San Luis Obispo, the happiest and healthiest city in the country! If you have never heard of it, it is on the California’s central coast, right between LA and San Francisco. I am a business major with a concentration in marketing. This will be my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I cannot wait to challenge myself and be inspired by everyone else’s work. I am a marketing manager and editing coordinator for a local college magazine, and I couldn’t love it more. I hope to one day work in the fashion industry.

San Luis Obispo is a very laid back and beachy college town, so more often than not my outfits stick out on campus. But finding the confidence to wear whatever I want is a big part of my style and what I am trying to portray and communicate to others that is my favorite part about putting outfits together. It’s something more important than the finished product is how I feel after I have the outfit on, and I’m sure most of you will agree!

I am obsessed with all things fun and quirky. My biggest inspiration is Carrie Bradshaw’s character on Sex in the City, her outfits are quirky and usually out of place. Does anyone remember the episode they go to the baseball game? But no matter what, she radiates confidence and stands out in the best way, wherever she goes. My goal is to give tips on how to be a Fashionista everywhere you go, even in business finance class.

My number one favorite clothing item is a dress, and I love to wear them year round, so in the winter I have to get creative with layering! I put a simple gray three-quarter shirt on top of this adorable floral dress and some fun printed tights. These rain boots save me from the rain and are cute without being bulky, definitely a staple.

One of my favorite tricks is restyling and re-loving old clothes. One item can be worn a million different ways, and finding those ways is one of my favorite hobbies. Being a college student on a budget, I have to find fun and innovative ways to keep wearing the pieces I already have in my closet. I am also a lover and big advocator for thrifting and consignment, I love the thrill of a good find at an amazing price. I can’t wait to share my favorite campus trends with you!
