STYLE ADVICE: Take a Walk On The Bright Side

February 20th, 2017 at 2:00am

Winter months can be such a drag, I mean, where is the color, the vibrancy, or the light—and I’m not only talking about the weather. As we all know, most winter clothes are designed in dark, neutral colors, which only add to the looming dark and gray weather, and honestly, just make me feel as if I am walking through a noir film. Assuming you are the type of person who loves to make an impression with their wardrobe, but also tries to stay true to traditional season trends, dressing for winter is probably tricky for you. So, what’s the best way to add a much-needed pop of color to a dull winter day you ask?  Well I would say it is to put it there yourself by wearing something bright. This thought hit me recently as I was walking through downtown Pittsburgh on a rather cold and blustery day, when I suddenly saw a flash of blue out of the corner of my eye, and that is how I spotted the lovely Fashionista featured in this article.

Now, not only is wearing something bright a great way to style yourself for these dreary winter months, it is also a great way to stand out in a crowded city, and this gorgeous Fashionista did just that. As you can see, this Fashionista decided to step out in this vibrant blue pea coat, and paired it with some traditionally colored winter basics, which included a brown printed blouse, tan sweater vest, some black skinny jeans, and brown loafers. Though this Fashionista stayed true to seasonal neutrals with her outfit, she dressed up this traditional winter perfectly by adding her blue coat. The reason the coat works so well with this outfit is that it adds flare to her neutral ensemble without being to over the top, which makes this outfit look effortlessly chic.

With that being said, my winter style advice to the more traditional Fashionistas and Fashionistos  would be to remember you can always mix it up and combine traditional trends with new ones and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! As you can see from the Fashionista in this article, pairing classic styles with newer trends works amazingly well with the right pieces, and if you dare to try it, you will definitely shine the brightest in a crowd.
