STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Upgrading Denim Blues

October 13th, 2015 at 2:00am

As fall weather approaches and campus weather cools down the remnants of summer, the everyday Fashionista is faced with incorporating denim into her fall wardrobe. Although jeans in a variety of shades are always a classic staple, challenging the status quo of jeans is an absolute must. Let me introduce you to the denim overall dress, your new denim best friend.

This dress is the lovechild of both ’90s grunge and comeback fashion. Denim overalls were a staple in our childhood, and they are back in dress form for their third round in the realm of street fashion. Unlike our kindergarten days, we’ve upgraded from our Disney embroidered overalls to sleek denim dresses. Perfect for layering and transitions from season to season, the denim overall dress gives any Fashionista a fall wardrobe update, with countless ways to personalize and accessorize.

This Fashionista picked up her overall dress at a thrift store in Madrid. It served as a staple for summer concerts and was revamped as a more formal piece for fall sorority recruitment. She layered a plaid Topshop sweater underneath the dress, to create a grunge casual look perfect for early morning classes. The Freebird by Steve Madden booties toughened up the outfit, especially in comparison to the cream socks she paired with them. As a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, she topped off the ensemble with two layered gold necklaces, emblazoned with her Greek letters and sorority symbol.

So how can you pick up this Fashionista’s look? An overall dress, a basic plaid top, tough booties and some simple layering necklaces can recreate this unique outfit and inspire more for your fall style.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like how this dress is functional for both fall and summer and can be styled and personalized any type of way.”
