STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Toodle-loo Fall Hues

Autumn brings shorter days and colder temperatures, but that doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to reflect the darkness and chilly weather. You could wear earth tones and neutrals like everyone else, or you could stand out amongst the fallen leaves and cloudy skies by wearing bright hues and funky patterns. This Fashionisto provides a great example of how you can shine through the drab weather making yourself look good and feel good.

This Fashionisto began putting together his look with the pants. From there, he picked a pink fleece long sleeve that looks and feels “like a cotton candy dream,” and a blue fleece zip-up jacket as neither of those colors are featured in the pants. A black belt, black flatform boots and Kuwabara pin complete the ensemble. While the colors of this look contrast the colors of other fall styles, the heavy material of each piece allows this bright look to withstand cold temperatures.

This look may ooze with originality, but this Fashionisto admits that he wasn’t always as fashion forward as he is today, “I used to dress how everyone else dressed, but now I’ve developed my own taste. I know what I like, I know what silhouettes I like to pull off. Baggy tops and slim bottoms are a classic silhouette for me. I used to do a lot of black and white, monochromatic everything. I would even go so far as to say I was a ‘health goth’. Now I’m starting to experiment more with color and different materials.”

There’s no better time to experiment with your style than at college. The best way to try out new styles without pulling out another student loan is to check out your local thrift stores. Begin to blend your new items in with your old pieces and watch as your wardrobe options expand immensely. If you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, you’ll naturally carry yourself differently.
