STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Thrifty Chic

September 29th, 2015 at 2:00am

Greetings fashion enthusiasts!

The awkward middle of summer and fall is upon us here in Chicago. Personally, I think this is a lovely time when the colors of the flora begin to peek out and the weather moves between hot, warm, cool and chilly. For the stylists within us, the fluctuating weather means switching between summer shorts and tank tops to fall sweaters, jackets and light scarves. It also means the stylish jacket and shorts combination! This Fashionista pulls it off well with her crimson shorts and sky blue, floral print jacket. Together with camel-colored boots matched and a beige bag, necklaces and round Sienna sunglasses, this Fashionista walks the paths of Loyola University Chicago in casual and chic attire.

The element that I think deserves attention in this outfit is within the folds that are intentionally made and those that occur naturally in the clothes. The cuffs of the jacket and the brims of the shorts are purposefully folded and in response to those folds, the sleeves of the jacket begins to furl. The shorts have a ready-made fold at the top which splays out as it runs down the shorts. Altogether, the shorts and jacket create the element of structure and definite shape in the look. It portrays the opposite of the flowy, bohemian look, but is equally fashionable and stylish.

Inquiring about where this Fashionista bought her outfit, she mentioned that the great finds she is wearing were found at local thrift shops. Who says you can’t be fashion savvy and economically conscious?
