STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Sweater Weather

We’re back at it—school season has arrived. There’s nothing I love more than checking out fellow peer’s outfits at the beginning of the semester. A time when us students have yet to be burdened down by a plethora of projects and assignments, and still have ample time to focus our energy on a mutual love for clothing. Nothing screams back to school quite like a classic knit sweater, the perfect combination of comfort and style. Whether it be a cropped knit to play off a high-waisted pair of trousers, or a long chunky knit being worn as the most stylish form of a sweatshirt to get you up and out of the house for that 8:00 a.m. class, every Fashionista/o should never find themselves heading into a brand new school year sans a nice knit sweater.

The knit sweater has been a staple in wardrobes around the globe for decades. Just take a look in your parent’s closets and I’m sure you’d be able to find a nice chunky knit they rocked just years ago. This classic staple is being taken in new directions at Fashion Week every year, and is easily reinvented based on the simplicity of the style. Super influential designers such as Alexander Wang, Michael Kors and even Calvin Klein have been dabbling in the reinvention of simplistic knitwear in their latest collections. Whether new styles and silhouettes are being added, the colors of the knitwear are taking dramatic turns or fringe is being introduced to the bottom of these sweaters, there is always a way to keep this classic style relevant and on-trend for every season.

If you aren’t convinced that a classic knit can be stylish, then take a look at this Fashionista’s favorite fall ensemble. By pairing an oversized knit with sleek leather leggings and simplistic boots, she has created a feminine yet effortless outfit combination. The slits up the side of this sweater and the higher neckline creates a beautiful shape, which, in turn, elevates this knit from plain and ordinary into a unique, stylish piece. Throw on a patterned scarf and a classic Marc Jacobs satchel bag and you have a complete, city-chic outfit that does not compromise comfort or style.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Wear thicker sweaters that can be worn with statement scarves on their own or pick up a shorter cropped sweater that can be layered with longer shirts underneath to play with different styles and shapes.”
