STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Socks Are Highly Knee-ded

As a Style Guru, one of the greatest pleasures of studying in Boston is the exposure to a variety of fashion. Coming from a prep school situated on the outskirts of a quiet town, I grew accustomed to everyone dressing remarkably alike. The collegiate city, however, encourages students to uniquely express their inner vogue.

I am always particularly impressed by a Fashionista/o’s unique interpretation of a popular trend. This fall I’ve noticed many students sporting knee-high socks around Boston University’s campus. The trendy accessory made it’s comeback fall 2013 at Tommy Hilfiger’s American Pastoral. Hilfiger’s incorporation of the classic stocking in multiple runway looks upgraded knee-high socks from the school-girl look.

Today’s Fashionista defines her style as eclectic because she “draws from many different ideas.” She relies on her vintage vogue with retro and mild urban influences to show off her oatmeal statement socks. Miu Miu’s pre-fall collection featured the beloved fall accessory paired with skirts and mid-length dresses to show off a bit of skin. Similarly, this Fashionista wears a one of a kind sweater dress made from several old sweaters. She accessorizes with a three-dimensional necklace, adding to the geometric theme of her outfit, and an assortment of unique rings. Superga sneakers were the perfect retro touch to complete her look.

How To: Layer some knee-high socks with boots or sporty sneakers, and throw a sweater dress on for a trendy look that requires minimal effort.
