STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mustard Doesn’t Have to Be Just a Condiment

As we put our swimsuits and summer clothes away for the year, we find ourselves wanting to jump right into fall and its rich colors. However, it isn’t fall yet, so hold on to your riding boots and thick cardigans! Choosing what to wear towards the end of summer is always confusing because the mornings and nights are cool, while the days are usually uncomfortably hot. It is possible to sport common fall looks even when it is still warm, not by wearing thick and comfortable clothing, but by rocking fall colors. The key is to wear summer’s flowy fabrics, but in warm, fall tones.

One of my favorite shades of yellow, mustard, is the perfect transitional color between summer and fall. It fits perfectly into summer colors because it is bright, but makes the perfect fall color because the warm tone of it complements the typical fall colors such as maroon, orange, brown and red. This color may seem like a hard one for everyone to pull off. However, my favorite thing about mustard is that it looks different on every skin tone and different depending on what article of clothing it takes form in.

This Fashionista paired a vibrant mustard colored dress with simple black flip-flops and layered necklaces. The dress was originally a two-tiered dress, but she decided to add her own touch by tying the first layer into a knot.

A simple, but elegant look like this one can be paired with a jean jacket for a casual day of classes, or with wedges or heels to make it suitable for a more formal occasion. The versatility and simplicity of this particular dress appeals to all people who want to go for an effortlessly elegant look in multiple settings.

According to this Fashionista, “Pulling off unique and bold styles may seem like something that is weird or out of your comfort zone, but it is so important to be open to trying new things. By trying new things, you open yourself up to countless possibilities.”
